How Is 'Banza' Pronounced?

Banza, which is shorthand for "garbanzo pasta", is pronounced bahn-zuh. The first syllable “ban” rhymes with “on,” not “an." As in, Banza is what's on your plate...for dinner tonight!

Banza Pasta and Mac & Cheese is made both in the U.S. and Italy. Banza Pizza and Protein Waffles are all made in the United States.

Does Banza Test For Pesticides, Like Glyphosate?

Yes. Banza is one of the first companies to obtain the CleanScan Certification from The Detox Project. This verifies our foods were tested for glyphosate and 400+ other pesticides at a third-party lab and showed non-detectable levels. By scanning the CleanScan QR code on our packaging, you can instantly access our comprehensive test results.

Where Does Banza Ship?

Banza orders currently ship to all states within the continental U.S., excluding Hawaii and Alaska.

Does Banza Ship Internationally?

As a small (but growing!) company our shipping capacity is somewhat limited. At the moment, we don’t ship internationally, but our goal is to bring Banza to the whole world. We’re working hard to expand our shipping options, including internationally! Be sure to sign up for email updates to stay in the know on where we’re headed next.

Why Is Banza So Expensive On Your Website?

We hear you. Some Banza products — like Pizza and Protein Waffles — require frozen shipping, which means insulation, dry ice, and expedited delivery to keep everything fresh. That adds cost on top of the product itself.

We also aim to use high-quality, premium ingredients while staying true to our mission of making nutritious food more accessible. We’re constantly exploring ways to improve affordability, and we appreciate your feedback in the meantime.

Can You Ship To P.O Boxes?

At this time, Banza orders cannot be shipped to P.O. boxes. We recommend using a physical address when placing your order from EatBanza directly.

How Long Until I Receive My Order?

Our team will pack your items within 1-3 business day from the date your order was placed, and the shipment will arrive ~3-5 business days after that. You’ll receive tracking details from info@eatbanza.com once the goodies are headed your way, so be sure to keep an eye out!

What’s Your Order Return/Refund Policy?

We offer refunds and/or replacements on a case by case basis. Refund/replacement requirements are: description of product, lot number (on the bottom of the box), and photos of product and packaging. If you weren’t satisfied with your order, please email us directly so we can make it right. We want to hear your feedback!

Do You Offer Options For Foodservice?

Yes! If you're interested in carrying Banza in a foodservice setting, email sales@eatbanza.com with a bit more info about your operation — we’d love to connect.

Why Did Banza Launch a Wheat Protein Pasta?

Since 2014, Banza has been on a mission to inspire people to eat more chickpeas, one of the best ingredients for human and environmental health.

Our new Wheat Protein Pasta line is another big step toward that mission. By combining semolina wheat and chickpeas, we're bridging the gap for the millions of people who love their wheat pasta but aren't eating enough beans. This is how we bring chickpeas to even more tables.

Where Is Banza Wheat Protein Pasta Made? Where Are the Ingredients Sourced?

We make our Protein Pasta here in the U.S., using semolina wheat sourced in U.S. The chickpeas are sourced from our Montana-based farmers.

Are Banza's Wheat Sourcing and Quality Standards the Same as for Chickpeas?

Yes. In order to achieve our CleanScan certification, our Protein Pasta is tested for glyphosate and 400+ pesticides and required to show non-detectable results. You can see the results via the QR code on our box or here.

Why Is Banza Wheat Protein Pasta More Expensive Than Regular Pasta?

While Banza Protein Pasta is more expensive than traditional pasta, we believe it's great value for what you're getting in every box. It has 70% more protein than traditional pasta and we thoughtfully source our semolina wheat and chickpeas from US-based growers.

Is Banza Wheat Protein Pasta Gluten-Free?

No. Our Wheat Protein Pasta and Wheat Protein Mac & Cheese are made from semolina wheat, which contains gluten.

To our gluten-free fans: our commitment to you hasn't changed. Our Chickpea and Brown Rice Pasta, Mac & Cheese, Pizza, and Waffles remain certified gluten-free and are made in a dedicated, separate facility from our Wheat Protein products.

Is There a Risk of Gluten Cross-Contamination with Banza Products?

No. We take allergens extremely seriously. Our Wheat Protein Pasta is produced in a separate facility from our Chickpea Pasta and Brown Rice Pasta, which are both certified gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO).

Is Banza Pasta Good For Blood Sugar?

One way to evaluate if a food causes blood sugar spikes is to look at its glycemic index (GI). Low GI foods are digested and absorbed more gradually, helping avoid rapid spikes and crashes in blood sugar and energy levels.

Banza Pasta varieties are considered low glycemic index foods*, with scores of 36 (Chickpea Pasta) and 42 (Brown Rice Pasta) and 54 (Wheat Protein Pasta).

A 2025 meta-analysis found that when study participants consumed chickpeas (vs. carbohydrate-matched controls) their post-meal glucose was lower. The protein and fiber content of chickpeas may contribute to this blood glucose effect while helping individuals feel fuller longer.

Click here to see an overview of all Banza products that are low GI*, including our pasta and several pizza and mac & cheese varieties.

That said, individual responses can vary and we always recommend checking with your doctor or dietitian if you have any questions about how Banza fits into your dietary needs.

*Based on a measured GI in a clinical study (ISO methodology).

Testing & Certifications

Does Banza Contain Xanthan Gum?

Xanthan gum can be found in many foods, like yogurt and ice cream, plant and nut-based milks, baked goods, and Banza! While chickpeas are the first ingredient in each of our recipes, we use small amounts of Non-GMO Project Verified xanthan gum to bind our ingredients as we’ve found it helps Banza foods achieve a taste and texture most similar to the traditional versions. To note, our NGP verified xanthan gum is derived from corn, though there are no corn proteins present in the ingredient. That said, if you have a corn allergy, we recommend consulting your doctor before consuming Banza.

That said, we understand “xanthan gum” sounds a bit intimidating given its science-y name, and we also know this ingredient is occasionally flagged as a concern because some studies have found it can upset the stomach when consumed in extremely large quantities (which are far beyond what can be measured in Banza and most other foods). As such, we’d like to take this opportunity to provide some additional context and information:

• Xanthan gum is created through a fermentation process where a naturally occurring microorganism (or “starter", like what’s used to make bread!) that grows on vegetables is used to ferment sugar.

• Food regulatory agencies worldwide have conducted extensive research on xanthan gum to verify its safety for human consumption. In doing so, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and JECFA (Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives), along with USA regulatory authorities, have unanimously approved its use as a food additive. In fact, the EFSA concluded here that xanthan gum poses no safety concerns for the general population, therefore eliminating the need to establish a numerical acceptable daily intake (ADI).

• Recent peer-reviewed studies have found that xanthan gum may offer positive impacts on human health, particularly in reducing the body's blood glucose response when added to specific starchy foods. While these potential benefits may very well extend to legume-based foods like Banza, our team feels further research is necessary to fully understand how these benefits apply to our products and to what extent.

At Banza, we make decisions about what goes into our products based on data from trusted regulatory agencies, and we can assure you that the usage levels of xanthan gum in our foods are well within acceptable consumption guidelines put forth by regulatory bodies – in fact, it would be nearly impossible to meet or exceed these limits by consuming Banza. We consistently lead with a thoughtful and deliberate approach when selecting each of our ingredients to ensure they are good for you, and for the planet! If you happen to have any additional resources or studies on xanthan gum that you’d like us to review, please feel free to share them here at info@eatbanza.com.

Preparation & Cooking

What Is The Shelf Life Of Banza?

Shelf life varies by product. Just check the “Best By” date printed on the package for the most accurate information. If you're unsure or have a question about a specific item, feel free to send a photo to info@eatbanza.com.

Any Cook Tips For Banza?

Follow the package instructions for best results. For Chickpea and Brown Rice Pasta: don’t overcook — it’s ready faster than traditional pasta. For Pizza: bake directly on the rack for a crispy crust. And for Protein Waffles: toast from frozen for best texture!

And because Banza Brown Rice Pasta is perfect for leftovers, we recommend reheating in the microwave with sauce for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Fresh sauce (our fave is marinara!) is best.
